Every
Heating Contractor needs the Smoother in their toolkit
The
Smoother is a smart, simple upgrade for all single zone residential
hydronic heating systems. Single zone hydronic heating systems
are by far the most common and largest segment of the residential
hydronic heating market. In North America, this market represents
approximately 8 million households¹.
The
most common problem in traditional residential hydronic heating
systems is uneven heating - some rads too
hot, some cold.
The
root cause of this problem is the way the circulator pump
is controlled. Traditional circulator controls (aquastats
and isolating relays) don't run the pump enough or at the
correct times. As a result, hot water is not mixed evenly
throughout the system.
To
eliminate this problem, many experienced contractors routinely
bypass the circulator control and run the pump continuously.
This gives a great improvement in heating comfort, as the
pump mixes the heat evenly through the whole system.
Of
course, this uses a lot of electricity. Even the tiniest 0.5
amp circulator running continuously uses over 500kWh of electricity
per year. A more typical 2 amp pump uses over 2000kWh of electricity
per year - as much as 4 full-size refrigerators!
The
Smoother is the only circulator control that operates the
circulator pump at the exact times needed for perfectly even
heating of the radiators, while using approximately 75% less
electricity than continuous circulation.
Extra
Features:
-
The Pump Exerciser helps prevent pump seizure
over the summer months by running the pump for 2 minutes every
24 hours.
-
The Soft-Start for dry-rotor pumps reduces
the noise and stress of the pump start-up.
Finally,
HVAC contractors have a great hydronic heating upgrade for
all their single-zone clients. The Smoother works with all
types of residential boilers, cast iron, steel, baseboard
or fin tube radiators and is installed in less than an hour
with an average two-year payback.
Most
importantly, the benefits of the Smoother can be realized
immediately by the homeowner - both in comfort and in the
pocketbook.
